Dr. David Barker is a real estate and finance entrepreneur. He is partner in Barker Apartments, which owns, manages, and develops apartments in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas. The family partnership currently owns 2,582 apartment units, student housing projects with over 400 beds, and has three projects totaling 249 units under construction. Dr. Barker’s other real estate businesses include convenience stores, office buildings, self-storage, agriculture, parking lots, and houses in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Georgia. He is also President of Barker Financial, which makes commercial loans nationwide, and President of Bardi Financial, based in the Cayman Islands, which offers loans to customers outside of the United States. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Gardner Bank, located in Gardner, Kansas, and also serves as Chairman of the Board of CashWiz, which makes pawn loans throughout the Caribbean area, and Byzantium International, which buys, sells, refines, and stores gold. Dr. Barker is a Visiting Scholar at the University of Iowa and has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Chicago, where he taught real estate investment to MBA students for ten years, and urban economics for four years. He has also taught finance courses at the Consortium Institute of Management and Business Analysis (CIMBA), in Paderno del Grappa, Italy. His research has been covered in Time Magazine, The New York Times, The Economist, and Roll Call, and he has appeared on Fox Business, MSNBC, Yahoo Finance, and dozens of radio programs. Before starting his real estate and finance businesses, Dr. Barker was an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he conducted research on real estate and the banking industry. Dr. Barker holds a B.A. degree from the University of California at Berkeley, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago.
